People say that your smile tells a lot about you, so it is important to have healthy teeth. A lot of us grew up and didn’t take our teeth and dental health seriously, and we started getting cavities. Once you have cavities, it will turn into decay, or worse, tooth loss. Some of us have lost teeth over sports or an accident. This has a huge impact on one’s self-confidence. You would tend to be afraid of smiling in front of other people.
The good thing is, there are ways around this now. Dentists have come up with dental implants.
The benefits of dental implants
If you are missing teeth, then you won’t have the enough teeth to chew on your food. This will cause you to put pressure on the other teeth, and this will result in a toothache. When you have missing teeth on your lower jaw, and you chew, it will cause your jaw to shift causing it to give you discomfort.
If you are missing teeth in the front, it can be very embarrassing to talk or show your smile. Getting implants will improve your smile, and it will fill in the gaps for when you are chewing. The dentist will keep the implant the same shade of white as your other teeth. The only person that will know you have implants would be yourself.
The dentist will talk to you before the surgery and tell you what they will do for you, and about how long it will take. He then will give you anesthesia so that you won’t feel any pain. He will let it set in for about ten minutes; you will start to feel a numbing feeling. It could be scary to hear the tool as the dentist drill into your jawbone to set the screw that will hold your implant in. After this is done, it will take about 3 to 6 weeks for your gum to heal, then you will go back in to have the implants put in place.
After the dentist puts the implant into the socket, he then will get an impression of your teeth. They may make you wear a retainer for a while after the implant has been done so that it won’t move. You have to wear it as much as you can, or they may want you to wear it only when you sleep.
